Mike Wheeler graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2009 with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy. Afterwards, Mike spent just over 3 years in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, where he worked as a community therapist. There he gained experience with clients of all ages in many areas of physiotherapy, such as orthopedic and sports injuries, geriatric and pediatric developmental issues. Mike joined the Donna Sarna physiotherapy team in 2013.
Mike’s primary area of experience is in orthopedics. He has taken post-grad courses and training to build on his assessment, manual therapy and treatment skills. These include ongoing training in myofascial release, cranial sacral therapy, visceral manipulation and acupuncture.
Mike works with a variety of clientele including sports and orthopedic injuries, post-surgical patients, as well as chronic pain clients. Mike also works with infants from birth to 12 months.
Mike was inspired to become a physiotherapist because he loved being active, and wanted to help other people stay active too. Easygoing and approachable, Mike brings a light sense of humour to his work along with confidence he can help everyone who walks in the treatment door. Mike uses a combination of manual therapy (hands-on treatment) and exercise programming to help clients reach their functional goals. He likes to tell people that it is important to consider how the body functions as a whole and also that the sessions can take a gentle approach in order to make significant changes to the client’s condition.
Mike loves spending time with his family. He also enjoys cooking, camping, travelling and many recreational sports.
